A MULTI-CHANNEL A-SCAN ULTRASOUND SYSTEM FOR REAL-TIME, NON-INVASIVE STUDY OF CAROTID ARTERY COMPLIANCE

  Cardiovascular disease is one of the most common causes of death in the world, while the compliance of carotid artery is an important parameter for predicting cardiovascular disease.Current methods of carotid artery compliance evaluation include B-mode scanners or single channel A-mode scanner.The B-mode scanner method needs extensive image processing algorithms and the cost is expensive, while the single channel A-mode scanner method easily results in huge measurement errors.To solve these problems, an eight-channel A-mode ultrasound system for carotid artery compliance measuring was invented.The system was tested by the carotid phantom models and its accuracy was compared with the single channel A-mode and B-mode scanner.Our Result shows that this eight channel A-mode system could measure the carotid compliance accurately and could be an alternative for the B-mode scanner.
