The Development of Chinas Population Ageing and Challenges Faced by Smart Ageing
1 Introduction China has entered the ageing society since 2000, and the huge elderly population size is the most populous in the world. The number of people aged 60 and above was 230 million at the end of 2016, accounting for 16.7 per cent of the total population (National Bureau of Statistics, 2017).There is no doubt that whether China, with over one-fifth of the worlds ageing population (United Nations Populations Fund, 2016), could actively address the issue of population ageing or not is directly related to the overall quality of life of the worlds elderly population.
