Factors Affecting the Probability of being Funded on Online P2P Lending Platform: An Empirical Investigation
Investors would make different decisions given the different information provided by borrowers on P2P lending platform due to the asymmetric information. This paper takes the transaction data published on we.com as the object, and finds that some factors such as credit level, educational background, income and loan amount have a positive impact while loan duration has a negative impact on the loan success rate.To do a further research, we apply the Gaussian Mixture Cluster method to cluster the 30 provinces (excluding those without borrower data) into five categories, and a research has been done to study whether the investors focus are the same for each category when extending funds. It is found that in some high-speed developing cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, investors would focus more on real estate owning condition of borrowers;while in some relative poverty-stricken areas namely Ningxia, Xinjiang and Guangxi, the influential factors would only be loan amount and borrowers credit level.
