Effects of feeding compound herbal additives on immunity status and lactating performance in dairy cows
Introduction With the improvement of animal nutrition research and management technology, the milk yield of dairy cattle in our country is increasing rapidly. At the same time, the health problems of dairy cows have become a prominent issue. The research (Lohrke et al, 2005) showed that the immunity of high yield dairy cows was reduced, and it was easier to be exposed to oxidative stress.Chinese herbal medicine is a kind of natural plant which has the dual attribution of nutrition and treatment. It can regulaterumen endocrine (Gu et al, 2010 and Liu et al, 2010) and the rumen environment (Liu et al, 2015), improve the utilization ratio of feed and milk yield(Jin et al, 2007 and Jia et al, 2011), enhance immune status (Huang et al, 2008 and Zhang et al, 2004) and anti-stress ability (Zhao et al, 2008 and Chen et al, 2010).It also has the function of anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, reduced milk somatic cell count, increase the negative rate of sub-mastitis (Qi et al, 2011 and Wang et al, 2013).In addition, Chinese herbal medicine also has the advantages of less toxic effects, no drug resistance, and so on, so it is considered to be an ideal immune enhancer and antibiotic alternatives. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of compound Chinese herbal medicine additive on immunity function and lactating performance in dairy cows.
