An Experimental Study on Arc Phenomena at Very Slowly Breaking Contact without/with External DC Magnetic Filed
Some results on the measurements of the very slowly breaking contacts are described in this paper. The opening speed of the moving elecrtrode is around 100 um/second.The size of the contact is 2.5 mm radius.Measured conditions are up to 40 Volts of open voltage, 5A of close current in the room atmosphere.Material of the electrode is mainly silver tin oxide.Voltage fluctuation of the contact and the movement of the arc root were main measured items. Some results when DC magnetic field perpendicular to the movement of the electrode is applied are also shown.Very basic data of the contact phenomena and electromagnetic environmental effect are discussed and suggestion for the development of the contact is described.
