Reliability of Heavy-Duty Reed Switches in Railway Application
Railway application standards specify four different reliability parameters which are Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety.Especially, SIL (Safety Integrity Level) targets are specified in railway control systems according to PFH: average frequency of a dangerous failure of the safety function per hour. The element or control devices have to also prove their systematic capabilities based on the requirements introduced in IEC 61508-2:2010.The Heavy-duty reed switches have received the standard compliance assessment certificates for reliability and safety from Functional Safety Center of Instrumentation Technology and Economy Institute (China). This paper describes the evaluation methods of reliability and safety of the Heavy-Duty Reed Switches and the maintenance procedures of them according to their failure mode analysis and endurance test results.
