Experimental Research on Breaking Delay Characteristics of Electromagnetic AC Contactors
The paper investigates the arcing phase angle (APA) distribution in breaking processes of electromagnetic AC contactors.Firstly it illustrates and analyzes a phenomenon discovered during experiments-APAs are not uniformly distributed, even though breaking signals are uniformly generated in the angle domain.Secondly, in order to verify this point of view, a power-electronic control device is designed to switch off the coil current instantaneously and achieve precise breaking phase angle (BPA) selection.Finally, experiments performed by the proposed device indicate that when the coil BPA varies, the delay duration between the breaking and arcing timings is non-constant.The research is of significant importance on precise APA control and electrical endurance extension of electromagnetic AC contactors.
