Nucleotides have traditionally been considered to be non-essential nutrients.However, numerous reports concerning human and terrestrial animals have shown that dietary supplementation of nucleotides may confer benefits under certain environmental or clinical conditions (reviewed by Carver & Walker 1995;Grimble & Westwood 2000).
