Zinc Sulfide as the Capping or Exchanging Medium for Bulk Heterojunction Solar Cells

This presentation will introduce our recent studies on an all-solid-version of bulk heterojunction solar cells. The first part will present a novel structure of bulk heterojunction based on mcsoporous TiO2 substrate, PbS quantum dots (QDs) and ZnS dielectric medium. The PbS QDs embedded in amorphous ZnS matrix are adopted to fill up the mesoporous TiO2 electrode with an in situ approach, i.e., successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction. The inorganic ZnS resembles the organic capping ligands normally used in colloidal QDs to control the size of PbS.To further improve cell performance, solvent effect on the resulting QD structures is investigated, and a quasi-monodisperse system of PbS QDs capped with amorphous ZnS is discussed. The second part will present an interdigitated CuS/TiO2 bulk heterojunction achieved by filling up TiO2 nanotube arrays with ZnS nanoparticles, and subsequently converting the ZnS nanoparticles into CuS film.Such a combination of pre-filling and post-exchanging process is essential in formation of the interdigitated structure.
