Facile Method for Large Scale Alignment of One Dimensional Nanoparticles and Control over Myoblast Orientation and Differentiation
Introduction One-dimensional (1D) nanoparticles (NPs), such as nanorods, and nanotubes, have become attractive building blocks for modern materials with wide applications in tissue engineering, 1 medicine,2 electronics,3 and optical devices.4 Due to their unique anisotropic shapes and shape related properties of 1D NPs, the orientation and alignment of 1D NPs is crucial for final material properties.5,6 For example, it has been shown that both electrical and thermal conductivity of carbon nanotubes increases along the alignment direction;and the enhancement was strongly dependent on the degree of alignment.7,8 Therefore, controlling 1D NPs orientation is an important topic during the development of 1D NPs materials.
