Research of livestock farming IoT System based RESTful Web services

  The Internet of Things (IoT) technology, based on the wireless sensor network, is developed rapidly and permeated into agriculture including livestock fanning.Focus on the problem of the smart livestock farming system based on IoT which is tightly coupled, hard to be expanded and poor network performance, this paper proposed an integrated framework of smart livestock fanning IoT system by means of RESTful (REST: Representational State Transfer) web services.Firstly, the state-of-the-art at home and abroad was given about smart livestock fanning IoT system.Second, the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)-based WS-* and REST, two common Web services technology, were compared and their suitable application scenarios were also described.Finally, a prototype system of smart livestock farming IoT system based Restful Web Services was introduced, which was used in environmental monitoring and henhouse control.The experimental result of the prototype system showed that the Restful Web improved the efficiency of the system.This provided a feasible system development model for smart livestock farming IoT system.
