Nonlinear Model for Estimating Broiler Feed Consumption as a Function of Thermal Environment and Age

  Among the main factors that influence the well-being and performance of broiler chickens,we can highlight the temperature and relative humidity.One of the main effects of the thermal environment influence on broiler performance is in their feed intake;under cold stress conditions, they tend to increase their feed intake as a strategy to increase metabolic heat, trying to prevent a reduction in core body temperature from excessive heat loss to the environment.Conversely, in heat stress, broilers tend to reduce their food intake, trying to reduce metabolic heat production, and thus maintain dissipation of body heat to the environment.The objective of this study was to develop a mathematical model to estimate the feed intake of broilers due to the thermal environment to which they are submitted, represented by Black Globe Temperature and Humidity Index, and age of the animals.The model proposed for estimating the feed intake of birds, was the non-linear type Lorentzian.The model was evaluated, based on the significance of the regression, regression parameters, and the coefficient of determination (r2).The model showed a highly determination coefficient significant, with r2 =0.9968, moreover, the analysis of variance of the regression and evaluation of regression parameters were significant with (p<0.0001).The data estimated by the model shown to be consistent with reality, indicating that in a cold stress condition the animals tend to increase their feed intake, and in heat stress there is a reduction in this consumption.
