Hot Weather Temperature Distribution Inside a Loaded Commercial Swine Trailer
Temperature and thermal conditions of the interior of a swine trailer during transport were monitored over a broad range of outdoor conditions (43 trips total) managed according to industry standards during one year in the Midwestern USA.Temperature distribution inside the trailer during transportation was used to characterize airflow patterns during extreme hot conditions.Results reveal that the ventilation patterns were not uniform and ventilation inlets and outlets locations were not consistently following the same trend throughout transportation.There is an opportunity for improving supplemental cooling design and management during loading and unloading periods.
