Study on the thermal stability of UHMWPE fiber materials

  The paper studies the change of material morphology, material composition, molecular structure and mechanical properties after the dry heat treatment on UHMWPE fibers.Results prove that the characteristic of UHMWPE fiber materials is not resistant to high temperature.Meanwhile the research shows that fiber longitudinal surface cracks rise due to the effect of heat.And the higher the temperature, the more obvious surface cracks.Also with the increase of temperature, the twisted deformation motion and stretching deformation motion of the fiber molecule become more intense.Crystalline structure of fibers also has small changes with the temperature rising compared to untreated fibers.When the temperature is higher than 1O0℃, breaking strength decreases with increasing temperature.And the longer the heating time, the more strength decreases.And the effect of temperature and time on the elongation are equivalent.
