Successive PAN/graphene nanofiber filaments by a multi-needle electrospinning device with an auxiliary electrode
Electrospinning is a simple and effective method to fabricate nanofibers with different materials, so that it has a rapid development in the last two decades.Nanocomposites, which are playing a key role in functional materials field, could be applied as aerospace device, sensor, energy gathering device, and other products. In this paper, conductive polyacrylonitrile and graphene (PAN/GP) composite nanofiber filaments were continuously manufactured by a multi-needle electrospinning device with an auxiliary electrode, and the spinning speed could reach l l3m/h.The GP weight fraction was 5% in the composite nanofiber. Then, the filaments were twisted from 1000 tpm (twists per meter) to 2000 tpm using a homemade twisting device. The structures and mechanical properties of PAN/graphene composite nanofiber yarns were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Instron 3365.The conductivity of a composite nanofiber yarn was also investigated. The results indicated that the average diameter of composite nanofibers was 162.9+33.2nm, which was thinner than pure PAN nanofibers manufactured using the same spinning parameters. The maximum breaking stress, strain and initial modulus of composite nanofiber yarns were 7.7MPa, 21.67% and 207MPa, respectively, which were lower than that of PAN nanofiber yarns.Compared with PAN nanofiber filaments, the conductivity of PAN/GP composite nanofiber filaments was improved from 4.62×10-15S/cm to 7.65 × 10-9S/cm.
