Biobased Thermal Resistance and High Tensile Strength Terpolyester Nanofiber:Fabrication and Characterization

This research fabricated novel nanofibers with a terpolyester of isosorbide (ISB),ethylene glycol, 1,4-cyclohexane dimethanol, terephthalic acid (PEICT) using electrospinning and characterized their properties. It enhanced higher glass transition temperature (Tg) than the other polyesters type polymers, and the smaller diameter nanofiber has higher Tg than the larger diameter nanofiber. It is due to orientation of polymer chain inside nanofiber, which was verified by DSC and polarized ATR-FTIR.The morphology and diameter of the nanofiber affected by concentration of PEICT solution were studied by SEM.It demonstrated smooth and well-formed nanofibers, and showed an increase of the diameter with increasing concentration. In addition, the tensile property, which was confirmed by UTM, enhanced as increasing the diameter because molecular orientation existed in finer nanofiber. It shows a better tensile property than general biobased nanofiber such as silk, chitosan, and gelatin. Finally, fabrication of PEICT nanofiber was optimized and characterized. It can be utilized in various industrial applications such as tissue engineering, wound dressings, and health caring devices.
