Discussion on the Photocatalysis Effect of Different ZnO Weight Ratios on Cotton Fabrics
As energy shortage and water pollution have been important global issues in recent years,it is necessary to exploit substitutable energy and reduce wastewater discharge.Sunlight is a kind of clean, abundance and free energy, which can be used in different ways.In this study, the utilization of sunlight irradiation to degrade organic stains on fabric was investigated. It discussed the photocatalysis effect of different nano-sized zinc oxide (ZnO) weight ratios (wt%) on cotton fabrics. After pretreatment of cotton fabric, different wt% ZnO nanoparticle liquor solutions were employed for coating on fabrics, with the dip-pad-dry-cure process.FE-SEM was used to observe surface morphologies of cotton fibers before and after coating.Compared with untreated fiber, the ZnO coating layer can be observed clearly on treated fibers.Photocatalysis effect was carried out using coffee stained on as-prepared fabrics. After 24 hours sunlight irradiation by solar simulator, the self-cleaning property of treated fabrics was discussed, compared with untreated one.The result can be concluded that there was photocatalysis effect on treated fabrics, and it also showed that the weight ratio of ZnO aqueous was an important parameter affecting the self-cleaning effect.
