One step scouring/bleaching process for cotton with activated sodium percarbonate system
Combined scouring and bleaching process for cotton was carried out with Tetraacetylethylenediamine (TAED)-activated sodium percarbonate (PC) system.In-situ generated peracetic acid (PAA) in the system can function as the bleaching oxidizer under low-temperature and near neutral-pH conditions.Effects of PC concentration PC, temperature (T) and duration (t)on the hunter whiteness index (WI) and capillary effect (CE) of fabrics were investigated.Research results showed that T had a significant influence on both WI and CE, followed by PC and t.WI was improved with the increasing PC due to the increasing produced PAA, but PC used in excess of the stoichiometric amount with respect to TAED could not produce an obvious addition effect.Cotton fabric obtained satisfied WI(67.2) and CE (10.5cm/30min) at 70℃ after it was processed in the system incorporating 10mmol/L PC, 15mmol/L TAED and 2g/L wetting agent for 30min.Comparing with the traditional H2O2 system which was performed at 95℃ for 45min, the activation system imparted higher WI and CE as well as less strength damage to the cotton fabric.
