3D Pattern Making for Upper Garment Taking into Account Body Proportion and Keeping Original Designed Shape

We proposed a method for making three-dimensional (3D) upper garment models and for computerized pattern making. This method can be used for making patterns for various body sizes considering vertical body proportions in addition to horizontal dimensions preserving original shape.A jacket bodice fitted to a designated dummy was prepared and scanned, and then 3D jacket models were made using scanned data of the jacket worn on the dummy.Cross-sectional dimensions and shapes of the dress form and jacket bodice were obtained by 3D scanning. The horizontal multiplication factors of the relationship between the dummy body and bodice, and vertical body proportions were calculated.Target dress forms were deformed using multiplication factors and vertical body proportions to construct a garment model that fitted the dress form. The method was verified using another dress form.By adopting the proposed method, jacket bodice was made and fitted on target body while preserving the original designed shape. The proposed method is a new size-changing method for a bodice that keeps the original shape.
