Development and performance evaluation of a smart electrical heating garment
Electrical heating garment (EHG) can provide protection from cold stress in outdoor cold environment.However, the heating power cannot be automatically controlled under different conditions, which might cause overheating and local thermal discomfort.In this study, a smart EHG,including heating pads, portable lithium battery and constant temperature control unit, was developed.A slim silver Omni heat reflection layer was also added to improve the thermal performance.Evaluation of the clothing thermal performance were performed by thermal manikin tests in constant temperature mode and human trial tests under the two conditions, i.e., heating (EHG_h) and without heating (CON), respectively.The effect of two air velocities (i.e., 0.4 m/s and 1.5 m/s) on the protective performance of cold protective clothing was also discussed.The cold protective performance of the developed smart heating outdoor clothing was assessed by the changes in skin temperature and subjective perceptions as well.The research findings will provide technical basis and guideline for the design and optimization of cold protective clothing in cold environments.
