Effectiveness of an Apparel Simulator Focusing on Adjusting Fabric Mechanical Properties
With the development of computer-aided apparel design, garment simulation has been used in the design and manufacture of garments throughout the apparel industry.The present paper investigates and analyzes parameters related to the mechanical properties of fabrics in an apparel simulator and proposes a method of judging the limitations of garment simulators as ranges of fabric mechanical properties.The drapes of circular fabrics and A-line skirts are simulated and the effects of parameters of the simulator are investigated.The parameters related to the tensile modulus, shear stiffness, bending rigidity, and mass mainly affect the simulation results.We thus find that parameters in garment simulators do not coincide with the actual mechanical properties of fabrics.Garment simulation cannot achieve accurate realism without incorporating the mechanical properties of a fabric.The simulation of a garment should also consider the garment type and fabric category.
