Commercial production of Asiatic hybrid and Oriental lilies in Indonesia
The enlargement of bulbs from bulblets and/or plantlets is an important technology, which is not well established in Indonesia.The main objective of this research was to develop the enlargement technology of bulblets in preparing high quality commercial bulbs of Lilium via an acclimatization process, vernalization of bulbs, and selection of bulb size and Lilium cultivars.The materials used in this study were plantlets, bulblets and harvested bulbs.Lilium cultivars used in the research were three Asiatic hybrids (unknown Asiatic,'Delina','Renata') and two Oriental hybrids (unknown longifiorum and'Liana') combined with acclimatization materials (plantlets and bulblets), bulb treatments (with and without vernalization), bulb sizes (big, moderate and small) and re-useable bulbs.The results indicated that enlargement technology of bulblets in preparing commercial bulbs was successfully established using bulblets as initial material of acclimatization, vernalization of bulbs at 4-6℃ for 6 weeks and bulb selection with two times on replanting process of bulbs (within 17 months).The technology was suitable for longiflorum,'Liana','Delina','Renata'and Asiatic.Bulb reuse could still be applied for flower production, but the productivity and quality of flowers generally declined.
