Improving Compressive Strength of PCC by Using a Combined Method of Mechanical Vibration and Compulsory Mixing
The effect of vibratory mixing on the compressive strength of Portland cement concrete(PCC) was investigated. The microstructures of the concrete samples prepared by vibratory mixing were investigated by using scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP) techniques in order to exam the mechanism of vibratory mixing on improving the strength. The rational vibratory mixing parameters were obtained according to orthogonal experiments of the concrete strength. The experiment results showed that the vibratory mixing with rational parameters increased the concrete compressive strength by about 15% over the common compulsory mixing. In addition, vibratory mixing improved the structure of the interfacial transition zone and hydration of cement paste, as well as reduced the number of harmful large pores.
