Synthesis and properties of single-phase Bi2Fe4O9-xClx

  Hydrothermal methods are adopted to synthesize single-phase Bi2Fe4O9instead of solid-method.Because the appearance of oxygen vacancy and the variety valence of Fe often make other phases be easier to appear.Even so, pure Bi2Fe4O9 are synthesized by solid-method with the existing of FeCl2·6H2O.With chlorine joined in the reaction, properties of the synthesized Bi2Fe2O9 crystalline changes including magnetic and electric.Obvious difference of the valence of Fe and energy band with different doping chlorine proves that chlorine atoms enter into the lattice of Bi2Fe4O9, which brings a difference to the absorption spectrum of Bi2Fe4O9.Experiments prove energy band and Fes valence in Bi2Fe4O9 both decrease with the increasing of chlorine doping indicating chlorines entering brings a compacter structure and lower energy for the doped Bi2Fe4O9.It means a red shift has happened when chlorine doping.The Fe 3ds split energy is also proved to decrease with the increasing of chlorine doping indicating a decrease of Fes valence.
