Study on High Volume SiCp / Al Composites by Ultrasonic Longitudinal-Torsional High Speed Milling

The high-volume SiCp / Al composites (SiCp/Al MMCs) have the advantages of difficulty in processing, excellent performance and application, and further exploit the potential of ultrasonic high-speed milling, The removal mechanism, milling force, workpiece surface quality, tool wear and milling chip of high-volume SiCp / Al composites under ultrasonic longitudinal-torsional high-speed milling were analyzed theoretically and experimentally, and compared with ordinary high-speed milling experimental study and analysis under the same milling parameters. The results show that:the mechanism of material removal under ultrasonic longitudinal-twisting and high-speed milling is changed, and SiC reinforced particles are mainly cut, and the surface quality and strength of the workpiece are obviously improved. The milling force under ultrasonic longitudinal-torsional high-speed milling is significantly lower than that of ordinary milling. The tool wear in the ultrasonic vibration is much smaller than the ordinary milling, and it is mainly flank wear.
