Experimental Study on the Force-induced Rheological Polishing of Complex Shape Cemented Carbide Cutting Tools

Force-induced rheological polishing (FRP), which utilizes the increase of the viscosity of polishing slurry under applied shear force to improve the polishing efficiency, was used to polish the complex shape cemented carbide cutting tool in this study. The evolution of the surface topography on different section of the cutting tool during polishing was analyzed to study the polishing characteristics of the cutting tool. The influences of polishing velocity, abrasive concentration, grain size on the surface roughness were discussed based on the experimental results. After 20 minutespolishing, the surface roughness of main cutting edge and side cutting edge are reduced from Ra 150 nm to Ra 10 nm rapidly.
