Spring-mass model for exploring normal strain of multilayer diamond coating
A modified spring-mass model was proposed to estimate the mechanical performances of multilayer diamond coating by an analysis of normal strain.Six types of diamond coatings (microcrystalline diamond (MCD), nanocrystalline diamond (NCD), MCD/NCD, NCD/MCD,MCD/NCD/NCD, and NCD/MCD/NCD) were studied. The results show that every substrate has the same normal strain curve, and MCD and NCD coatings also present the same trend. The frequency of normal strain is equal to that of external force. The normal strain is sensitive to the frequency of external force. Two rapid decrease in the normal strain are found at ~2950 and ~4250Hz.The results indicated that the composite Youngs modulus calculated from spring-mass model is in agreement with the theoretical results.Multilayer diamond coating has a combining advantage with high surface hardness and superior internal elasticity.
