Research on surface integrity during trimming of CFRP with abrasive router and end mill
The single layer brazed diamond abrasive router and the diamond coated carbide end mill with the same diameter and flutes were applied during the trimming of CFRE The surface roughness and micro topography of finished surface were measured, observed and discussed.The results show that the great pits of plies with 45° fiber direction and resin smearing of plies with 90° and 135° are the typical micro topography of finished surface during trimming process by end mill.For abrasive machining process, the surface integrity is much better that most fibers are visible with small amount of pits and smearing.The surface roughness Rz-is much suitable and reliable than Ra on the evaluation of surface integrity during the trimming process by diamond coated carbide end mil and the single layer brazed diamond abrasive router.
