Effect of Addition of a Cover Mold on Permeability of Fiber Reinforced Material in VIMP

For vacuum infusion molding process (VIMP), we suggests inserting a cover between the fiber reinforced material and the vaccum bag to test permeability. To study the influence of addition of a cover on the permeability of fiber reinforced material, in-plain permeability of glass fiber reinforcement is tested by VIMP.The results indicate that inserting cover mold changes the permeability of glass fiber preform.Different covers with different properties lead to different results. The rigid PMMA cover improves permeability and shortens infusion time during the process while flexible PVC cover and permeability show no obvious correlation;when the number of fabric layers is less than ten, the permeability of fiber reinforced material rises first and then decrease as the layers incease. For different fabric layers, the effect of a cover on permeability of fiber reinforced material varies but could not show any regularity.
