Effect of Wrapping Yarn Process Parameters on the Tensile Properties of Core Metal Wire
The platinum(Pt) and nickel(Ni) wires and their products are widely used in manufacturing smart and personal protective textiles. However, the weak tensile properties of particularly fine Pt and Ni wires are a major drawback for their using in textile processing and other wide application. In this study, four wrapping yarns (Pt/polyamide draw texturing yarn (PA-DTY), Pt/polyamide fully drawn yarn (PA-FDY), Ni/PA-DTY and Ni/PA-FDY) with different twists were prepared by the hollow spindle spinning frame which was self-modified.The Pt and Ni metal wires were used as core, PA is employed as cover material.Meanwhile, several experiments are conducted to examine the morphology and tensile properties of the core metal wires and their wrapping yarns. The results show that the breaking strength and elongation of core Pt wire increased by 59% and 42%, respectively, when the twist is 1000 turns/m covered by PA-FDY.As for core Ni wire, the breaking elongation increased by about 19% and breaking strength increased by 16 times when the twist is 1000 turns/m covered by PA-FDY.This suggests that the tensile properties of fine metal wire can be effectively raised by wrapping yarn which is convenient for the subsequent processing.
