Resist Dyeing Patterns during the Han and Tang dynasties in China
Xie is a general term for traditional resist dyeing in ancient China, including tie dye, clamp resist dye, wax resist dye and ash resist dye. From the findings in Xinjiang, the motifs of resist dyeing patterns can be divided into four categories, namely geometric, plant, bird and character patterns. The geometric patterns always come from tie dyed silks due to technological limitations;plant patterns are the most popular;bird patterns always combine with flowers;though character patterns are less founded, it sometimes reflects the social life then.
