The Enhanced Cleaning Capability of Cotton Fabric Cross-Linking with Thermo-Responsive Copolymer

  The enhanced cleaning capability of the cotton with cross-linked random copolymer is studied.Poly (2-(2-methoxyethoxy) ethoxyethyl methacrylate-co-ethylene glycol methacrylate), denoted as P (MEO2 MA-co-EGMA), is synthesized from 2-(2-methoxyethoxy) ethoxyethyl methacrylate (MEO2 MA) and ethylene glycol methacrylate (EGMA) with the ratio of 17∶3.ATR-FTIR and contact angle measurement indicate the thermo-responsive properties of P(MEO2 MA-co-EGMA) and the cross-linked cotton fabric.The cleaning capability is characterized by the decontamination experiments probed with confocal microscope.The results show that the cleaning capability of the cotton with cross-linked thermo-responsive polymers can be varied by changing the temperature above or below its lower critical solution temperature (LCST).It possesses an excellent cleaning capability at low temperature (below its LCST).
