Hexavalent chromium (Cr(Ⅵ)) Toxicity to the Performance and Community Composition of Activated Sludge Microorganisms
1.INTRODUCTION Hexavalent chromium (Cr(Ⅵ)) is well-known due to its high toxicity.Cr(Ⅵ)-contaminated industrial effluents might be discharged into water streams, and eventually they would enter wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) through the municipal sewage system.Because activated sludge process has been the most commonly domestic wastewater treatment based on microorganism ability to degrade pollutants, naturally, the presence of Cr(Ⅵ) in wastewaters may change the community composition of activated sludge microorganisms and affect the performance of wastewater treatment plants.
