Mixed Matrix Polyaniline-Exfoliated Graphite Polymer Acid Doped Membranes for Enhanced Electrical Conductivity and Stimuli Response
Mixed matrix polyaniline (PANI)-exfoliated graphite (EG) poly (2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid) (PAMPSA) doped membrane was formed by non-solvent induced phase inversion method (NIPS) in this study.EG was efficiently incorporated into the PAMPSA doped PANI membrane (Memb-PAMPSA) by solution mixing to form the Memb-PAMPSA-EG.A secondary dopant dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid (DBSA) was incorporated into the Memb-PAMPSA-EG by solution immersion to form the Memb-PAMPSA-EG/DBSA.The results showed that the conductivity of Memb-PAMPSA was improved by two orders of magnitude by the incorporation of EG,and further enhanced by twenty times using a long chain acid DBSA as a secondary dopant. The membrane showed fouling removal ability under applied electrical potential and the fouling removal behaviour was closely related to the membrane conductivity. The results of this study opens the pathway for the development of antifouling membranes combining electrochemical system with membrane processes for water/wastewater treatment.
