Dynamic monitoring and trend analysis of soil moisture in Shendong mining area based on MODIS

Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and land surface temperature (Ts) data from the Multi-temporal Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) with 250 m resolution from 2000 to 2015 were used to analyze the bi-parabolic NDVI-Ts space. The spatio-temporal features of soil moisture situation for 16a in Shendong mining area was evaluated based on the Temperature Vegetation Dryness Index (TVDI) obtained from bi-parabolic NDVI-Ts space. The future development trend of soil moisture was predicted using the unary linear regression method and rescaled range analysis (Hurst). The results show that soil moisture conditions in Shendong mining area increase gradually from northwest to southeast over the past 16a, and Hurst is higher in the middle of mining area, while it is low on the western.Combined with the slope and Hurst variation trend analysis in 16a of soil moisture, the drought conditions are slightly aggravated in future.
