Varied soil liable organic carbon contents among reclamation patterns in Pingshuo opencast coal mine, China

Six types of reclaimed forest stands (three types of monoculture forests and three types of mixed forests) were identified in Pingshuo opencast coal mine, China, to determine Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and Soil Liable Organic Carbon (SLOC) in reclaimed RMSs.Adjacent, unreclaimed plot (UR) was selected as references as well. The results showed that after 21-year reclamation, concentrations of TOC and SLOC varied among forests, among which mixed forests had the highest fractions of TOC and SLOC concentrations.Contents of TOC and SLOC were observed decreased as soil depth increased. At the same depth, the Efficient Ratio (ER) of three SLOC varied in the order low SLOC (16.35-24.75%) > middle SLOC (4.14-12.15%) > high SLOC (0.12-1.37%).Carbon Management Index (CMI) varied significantly among forests as well.Overall, TOC and SLOC could be significantly improved after reclamation, and mixed forests especially R.pseudoacacia-P.tabulaeformis could be the most effective reclamation pattern.
