Peatland restoration after open pit mining
For design of peat excavation technology on the peat deposit Orshinsky moss of the Tver region, Russia technically feasible and economically expedient solutions were proposed. This peat deposit is located in 30 km from Tver city. This peat deposit has the area over 35 km2.Peat resources are estimated at approximately 28.0 million tons. The geological structure of a peat deposit allows to conduct working off of a pit in the open way.The production capacity of the enterprise for peat with conditional moisture of 70%-545 760 m3/year.The project provided excavation and drying of peat raw materials to moisture content of 70%, its transportation to the plant for processing, technical land reclamation. The reclamation direction of the pit is a nature protection pond by natural tilling and overgrowing for the purpose of repeated bogging of the territory.Arrangement and formation of a landscape of future pond depend on a form of open-pit development and level of ground waters bedding.During creation of a pond it is given a rectangular shape with depth-3-4 m.In the center of this pond there is an area (island) 40 × 30 m in size for nesting of waterfowl.
