Superfine Powdered Activated Carbon for Significantly Enhanced Adsorption of Ranitidine: Preparation, Performance and Mechanism

To further improve the adsorption kinetics, superfine powdered activated carbon (SPAC) was prepared from normal PAC in this study. Both SPAC and PAC were employed to explore the adsorption mechanism of a typical N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) precursor, ranitidine (RAN).The results showed that the adsorption kinetics were evidently improved by SPAC than PAC.The maximum adsorption capacity by SPAC and PAC was quite similar. The adsorption of RAN was strongly pH dependent, and the adsorption capacity obviously improved as the pH increased. The coexistence of humic acid (HA) had no significant effect on the adsorption behavior.
