A Bottom-up Approach to Simulating the Construction of the Roman Colosseum Using Virtual Reality
This paper presents a comprehensive recreation of the construction of the Colosseum using virtual reality, a technique which has never been attempted before in the construction study of this ancient monument. The creation process of this simulation includes deriving and compiling information from both personal observations and a number of different historical and archaeological sources as well as findings from the monument itself. The result of this process is a digital simulation which can allow users to view any part of the Colosseum in various stages of construction, as well as a number of possible pathways of construction as established by the literary research.
