Kenaf/PLA Nonwoven for Automotive Door Panel

  This research has focused on creating kenaf/polylactic acid (PLA) nonwoven fabrics for the base of a composite used in automotive door panels.Three blend ratios of kenaf fibers/PLA fibers (50/50, 60/40 and 70/30) were used to produce fabrics via airlaid web formation and needlepunch bonding methods.This paper investigated the influence of the blend ratios on the performances of the fabrics, including compostability,stiffness, breaking strength.The mass loss of 70/30 blend nonwoven was 13.5% after composting for 24 days.The mass loss increased with the increased amount of kenaf.Blend ratios had a significant effect on compostability and stiffness.
