The Relationship between Air Velocity and Clothing-drying Efficiency within Domestic Dryer
The objective of the study is to establish a quantitative relationship between air velocity and clothing-drying efficiency within domestic dryer.Using a three-dimensional infrared thermography scanner with digital transmitter (OPI-450, Germany), surface temperature of fabric-drying of experimental sample was measured. The instantaneous weights of the fabric can be measured continuously by means of a load cell with ± 5 g accuracy.Relationships between the drying efficiency of clothing, was measured during the air-vent dryer, and air velocity were examined by regression analysis. The results proved that the surface temperature of experimental cotton sample increased with air velocity but began to decrease as a result of forced convection when the air velocity was higher than 8.5 m/s.Furthermore, according to experimental results, 11.5 m/s were found to be the optimum moisture removal rate of fabric in convective drying process of fabric. In addition, this study can also be used to predict the drying efficiency of dryer at the products design stage.
