Physical Oligomer/Polymer Gels: Self-Sorting and Stimuli-Responsive Gelation Properties

Polymer self-sorting1-the ability of polymers to recognize itself or other polymers, and discriminate the rest in a complex molecular mixture is commonly observed in biological systems such as DNA recognition. On the other hand, polymer gels that can show stimuli-responsive properties is also a topic of practical interest.2-4 Based on our recent studies of click oligomers/polymers,5-9 we will present our recent findings on the synthesis of several click oligomers/polymers 1-3 that exhibit both properties described above.Examples will also be given to show how the degree of oligo-/polymerization,side-chain substitution, monomer dipole orientation and backbone rigidity on their self-association properties which are manifested in their differential gelation power, anion-and photo-responsive, and self-sorting capabilities.
