Synthesis of Soluble Polybenzimidazoles Containing Diazafluorene Unit
Polybenzimidazole (PBI) has been noted as a kind of important polymeric material, which hashigh glass transition temperature, good chemical stability, excellent thermal and mechanical properties.They have been widely used in microelectronics industry, automotive industry, aeronautical industry and fuel cells components.1 However, the major drawback of traditional PBI is the rigid heterocyclic structure leading to the poor solubility and processability.2In this study, novel polybenzimidazole containing ether and diazafluorene in the main chain has been synthesized.The diazafluorene unit presents a heterocyclic,twisted, and non-coplanar structure, which can reduce the regularity of the polymer main chain and increase the free space between the molecular chains.Therefore, the introduction of diazafluorene structure in PBI is expected to increase both solvent solubility and proton conductivity.
