Microfibrillation of Cellulose and MFC Based Biomass Composites

The research and utilization of cellulose, the most abundant and important natural polymer available in large quantities on earth, has been an area of growing potential.It is known that natural plant fibers have a complex hierarchical structure.A single plant fiber is actually a bundle of fibrils.Two kinds of nanocellulose fibrils can be separated in top-down processes from plants: nanocrystalline cellulose whisker and microfibrillated cellulose (MFC).The super mechanical properties of nanocellulose have made it a promising reinforcing agent for biocomposites.
