Structure and Properties of Aromatic BPDA-PDA Polyimide Fibers under Different Thermal Treatments

Polyamic acid (PAA) fibers derived from 3,3,4,4-biphenyltetra-carboxylic dianhydride (BPDA)and p-phenylenediamine (PDA), as shown in Scheme 1, have been fabricated through a dry-jet wet-spinning method. These PAA fibers are thermally treated into polyimide (PI) fibers via two different thermal procedures. In Procedure Ⅰ, PAA fibers were heated from room temperature to different temperatures with a heating rate of 5 ℃/min.And in Procedure Ⅱ, PAA fibers were isothermally treated at different temperatures for different time.
