Highly cis-1,4 selective polymerization of isoprene catalyzed by Co(Ⅱ) complexes bearing α-diimine ligands
In 1995, late transition-metal complexes containing a-diimine ligands, discovered by Brookhart exhibited very good activity for olefin polymerization,1 the late-transition-metal catalysts for ethylene and linear a-olefins polymerization has received increasing attention from both academia and industry.2-4 However, N^N bidentate Co(Ⅱ)complexes bearing a-diimine ligands for isoprene polymerization have not been reported yet to the best of our knowledge.Compared with the N^N^N tridentate ligand, the a-diimine ligand gives the metal complex a more open coordinated environment due to less steric hindrance.5 A series of a-diiminecobalt complexes and dichloride ethylaluminum (AlEtCl2) catalyst system were employed for isoprene polymerization and they showed high selectivity for cis-1,4 polyisoprenes (cis-1,4 PIs, up to 94%).The resulting PIs possessed low molecular weights and narrow polydispersity, which could be useful as coating additive and in other application.
