Design and Synthesis of the Novel Conjugated Organic Small Molecules Containing Bithiazole Structure

Over the past decades, organic semiconductors have been the subject of intensive academic and commercial interests1,2.Due to the designable molecular structures and less batch-to-batch variation in properties, small organic molecules are promising alternatives to polymer for organic semiconductor application. For those succesfully investigated small molecules, thiazole has been widely adopted as a heterocycle structure due to its high performance in organic electronic devices3,4.However, owing to the electron-withdrawing nitrogen of imine (C=N), the thiazole usually shows low activity during the further functionalization5.In this work, a series of conjugated small molecules containing bithiazole structure (TZ-1 and TZ-2, as shown in Scheme 1) were efficiently synthesized in moderate yields by Suzuki reaction and Adole style reaction, respectively. All these synthesized small molecules contains π electron conjugated system with donor and acceptor groups, which as one kind of organic functional semiconductors may have potential applications in the field of electronics and optoelectronics.
