Hollow Hydroxyapatite/Polyelectrolyte Hybrid Microparticles with Controllable Size, Wall Thickness and Drug Delivery Properties
Hollow hydroxyapatite/chitosan/hyaluronic acid (H-HAP/CHI/HA) hybrid microspheres with controllable size, wall thickness and drug delivery properties were prepared by controlling the hydrothermal conversion time. The prepared H-HAP/CHI/HA hybrid microparticles were characterized by TEM, SEM and FT-IR spectrometer. With the extension of hydrothermal conversion time, the thickness of the HAP shell could become thicker, and the size of the hybrid hollow microparticles changed from 2 m to 850nm (Fig.1).The DOX loading and release results demonstrated that the HAP/CHI/HA hybrid microspheres had a relatively high drug loading efficiency. The drug release rate of hybrid microsphere increased with the hydrothermal conversion time increasing. At the same time, the introduction of CHI/HA polymer film could potentially assuage the initial burst release of drug from the porous HAP.1 In addition, the drug release of hollow hybrid HAP microparticles was pH-dependent because of the different electrostatic interaction in the CHI/HA multilayers at different pH values and the dissolution of the HAP hollow core under acidic conditions (Fig.2).
