RECENT ADVANCES ON IMPROVING THE FIRE PERFORMANCE OF SYNTHETIC FIBER/FABRIC BY GRAFTING WITH DIFFERENT MONOMERS
This presentation summarizes the recent development of improving the fire performance of PA fabric by grafting technology in the last decade. The flammability and hydrophilicity of PA samples treated by chemical-induced grafting, photo-induced grafting and microwave-induced grafting separately were compared and discussed. It was indicated that grafting with many different monomers could improve the anti-dripping property of the fabric by elimination of the melting process and the resulted scaffolding effect. It was suggested that the premature decomposition of the monomers/grafting chains can remove the heat from the fiber and delay the further decomposition of the substrate. It was also observed that the grafting chains could significantly alter the hydrophilicity of PA fabric.
