SYNTHESIS OF A NOVEL DOPO BASED FLAME RETARDANT AND ITS FIRE BEHAVIOR IN DIFFERENT MATRIXES
A novel flame retardant of 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide(DOPO) grafted glycerol (GL-3DOPO) has been synthesized by glycerol, acryloyl chloride and DOPO.The chemical structure was confirmed by 1H NMR and FTIR.The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) results showed that the GL-3DOPO has greater thermal stability than DOPO.GL3DOPO was melt blended with different polymers (PET, PBT, PC, PA6, PA66) to form polymer/GL-3DOPO composites.The thermal degradation behaviour and flame retardant properties of the composites were investigated by TGA, the limiting oxygen index (LOI) test and UL-94 test.The results showed that the incorporation of GL-3DOPO could improve the flame retardancy of polymers..
